Why feed Camelibra Alpaca mineral food to my alpaca, llama or camel?
Camelibra should be fed daily to all alpacas, llamas and camels to supplement a natural, high fiber diet.
For long-term health, it is important for camelids to eat plenty of fibrous material and therefore the consumption of concentrated hard food should always be kept to a minimum. Too much hard food in the daily diet can lead to compaction - a situation in which heavier material sinks into the foregut, interfering with food motility and normal regurgitation/gastric regurgitation. For this reason, the daily feeding rate for Camelibra is very low and is only 1g per kg live weight, which is about 5% of the normal daily intake.
Daily feeding recommendation:
Summer feeding for all camelids = 1 g. Camelibra per 1 kg live weight (e.g. a 60kg alpaca = 60g Camelibra)
Winter feeding for all camelids = 1.25 g. Camelibra per 1 kg live weight (e.g. a 60kg alpaca = 75g Camelibra)
