BABY ALPACA FUR PRODUCTION
All alpaca fur designs are developed by Alpaka Appenzell, to achieve a fashionable, elegant style. Our employees come from the highlands of Peru from families with a long fur sewing tradition, whereby they are accustomed to processing such noble furs as the Baby Alpaca. With great attention to detail they are able produce high quality fur products.
For us it is very important to know the origin of the products in order to maintain the high quality. That's why we always work with the same families, which also guarantees that the products are made to specifications and there is no illegal middlemen. In Peru, a long time partner and friend is responsible for the production monitoring and can guarantee the high quality of the final products in order to ensure that the deliveries to Switzerland are free of defects.
Defining the term fair trade is not easy. Should the producer, the distributor or the customer be treated fairly? Of course, it is ideal if all involved parties can benefit from a good relationship between price and performance. Alpaka Appenzell has made it its goal that a maximum profit will flow to the employees in Peru.
Most of our fur comes from alpacas that have died naturally
We only use alpaca fur of the highest quality for our products. However, no alpacas have ever been killed just to obtain their fur. It takes generations for alpacas to be bred with the high-quality wool required to make alpaca wool products. Therefore, it is more profitable for the farmers to breed the alpacas for their new wool and maintain a continuous source of income.
There are over 3 million alpacas in Peru, with a number of alpacas dying each year due to the harsh Andean climate. Our fur workers come from the Andes and are therefore able to buy the fur directly from family and friends when one of their high-quality alpacas dies, giving the farmer at least a small amount of income for his animal loss.
