The term “baby alpaca” is a quality feature.

The name baby alpaca is often attributed to the fact that the wool is collected from young alpacas. In fact, even an old alpaca can produce baby alpaca-level fiber. Baby alpaca fibers are classified as fibers that are between 18 and 22 µm (microns) in diameter and are fine enough to be applied to the baby's skin. Therefore the name. Anything under 18µm micron is classified as Royal Alpaca. The term refers to the softness of the fleece, which as described in the term is just as soft as a baby's fleece.

Alpaca wool properties

Alpaca fleece is a noble, fine and extremely breathable product that is durable, fire-retardant, light and warming. The natural properties of the alpaca fleece and the excellent handwork combine comfort, quality and style.

The alpaca fur is a 100% natural product! It has natural protection against dirt and aging and is therefore very easy to care for and does not contain lanolin oil  Therefore it is not susceptible to dust mites and is therefore highly recommended for asthmatics and allergy sufferers.

You can find out more about what makes alpaca wool so unique here.

The alpaca family includes two species, the Huacaya and the Suri.

The Huacaya is the type of alpaca we raise on our farm and is very recognizable for its teddy bear look and tightly bundled fleece.

The Suri, on the other hand, is generally slightly larger than the Huacaya and has long, silky strands that can reach to the ground similar to dreadlocks.

There is a big difference in feel to the Huacaya (short hair) and Suri (long hair). Huacaya fur products are denser, more cuddly and immediately give a warm feeling when you put your hand on them. Suri, on the other hand, feels cool, but also warms up after a short time. The Suri wool is amazingly soft and silky with a very high shine.
